This fallen world in which we live is “not our home.” Christians trying to live with one foot in the world and one in the Kingdom of God become double-minded, and spiritually inert.
Philippians 3:18—20 addresses believers who are living by their fallen nature, rather than under the influence of the Holy Spirit of God. The things they’re proud of is actually to their shame; emanating from the “pride of life:”
18 “For, as I have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven.
James 4:7-8 7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts [affections], you double-minded.”
